Thug hunted over pub attack spotted cooking on Come Dine With Me Posted: 16 Sep 2010 12:43 AM PDT A chef who appeared on Come Dine With Me nearly did porridge - after he was spotted on TV as a wanted thug. Carlos Buller was one of group who battered a man in a pub brawl. Victim Anthony Hargreaves ended up with a broken jaw but none of the attackers were caught, although the assault was recorded on CCTV. But then Buller, 45, who is also an interior designer, was recognised and tracked down when he appeared as a contestant on the hit Channel 4 cookery programme. He was spared jail after admitting assault causing actual bodily harm. Manchester crown court heard Buller repeatedly hit Mr Hargreaves with his "man-bag" in a drunken row over a chair at the Red Lion pub in Withington, Manchester. Buller, from Withington, showed better manners in a December 2008 episode of the TV show which challenges keen cooks to throw the best dinner party. Guests admired Buller's flamboyantly decorated flat before he served up a Caribbean feast. Two months before the episode aired Buller was among a gang of men who attacked Mr Hargreaves. Although Buller did not strike the blow which fractured his jaw, he was shown repeatedly hitting Mr Hargreaves. He was arrested a year later after the episode of Come Dine With Me was repeated. In a statement, Mr Hargreaves said: "The attack has left me in a terrible state, physically. I did not provoke the violence used on me." Katherine Pierpoint, defending Buller, said: "When he saw that CCTV footage he was, and still is, deeply ashamed and embarrassed. He's worked all round the world as an interior designer and as a chef." Sentencing him to eight months in jail, suspended for two years, plus 150 hours' unpaid work, Judge Roger Dutton told Buller: "You are older than the usual person who appears before these courts for fighting in pubs. "One would have thought by your age, you'd have grown out of it."
