Industrialist Tasks Govt on Rising Unemployment From Tunde Sanni in Ibadan, 05.22.2010 Oyo
Foremost industrialist, Chief Kola Daisi, has said that the time has come for the government at all levels to tackle unemployment if the nation is to be liberated from the cycle of armed robbery, cultism and hooliganism. Daisi, who is the Chairman of the BATN Foundation, at the inauguration and handing over of the multi-purpose Ibadan Community Vocational Enterprise Institution located in Idi-Ayunre to the authorities of Community Link Advancement Programme {CLAP}, however linked the solution to youth unemployment and low productivity to the establishment of vocational enterprise institutions. The institution was built by British American Tobacco Nigeria {BATN} Foundation and was handed over to CLAP is a pet project of the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Oluwakemi Alao-Akala. The industrialist said that the realisation of the potentials and opportunities in such institutions informed the foundations decision to support the establishment of the institution. Daisi stated that the foundation believed that such gesture could be a platform for future technological and economic development. He said the donation was multi-disciplinary as it is fully equipped to cater for trainings in Information Technology and Computer Studies, cookery, tailoring and knitting. He expressed the hope that the people of the state would avail themselves the opportunities inherent in the institution to acquire marketable skills.
In her goodwill message, the Area Legal Director, BAT West Africa, Mrs. Sade Morgan, said the institution was the 84th project of the foundation since its formation in 2002. This, Morgan added, was clear evidence that the foundation is truly delivering on its stated aim of contributing positively to socio-economic development and improving the livelihood of Nigerians in the urban and rural areas. She said the institution was conceived in 2007 with the intention of equipping the youth with the entrepreneurial skills that would enable the establishment of viable businesses, driving wealth and ultimately job creation. She added that the decision to hand over the administration and management of the institution to CLAP was borne out of the foundations desire to ensure that the project was sustainable. As a responsible company, we are committed to setting the highest standards of corporate citizenship and we will continue to contribute to socio-economic development both as business and through the BATN Foundation, she concluded.
