Same name authors to promote books

IT could be a case of "a Bridge too far" at a Bolton bookshop next week.

For when cookery writer Tom Bridge will be signing copies of his new recipe book in the morning at Sweetens Bookshop, sci-fi author Tom Bridge will be promoting his new novel, The Watcher, in the afternoon.

Stella Morris, owner and manager of the Deansgate store, said: "It is a complete fluke. When they both contacted me I thought, why not? I'd say the likelihood of it ever happening again is pretty unlikely."

With the two Bolton writers specialising in such very different subjects, is she not worried about people getting mixed up at the double signing on October 30?

"It could make for a very interesting day if that did happen!" she said. "There might even be some pies left from cook Tom's session for the ones who come in the afternoon!"

Cookery writer Tom Bridge, who will be promoting his new book The Pie Society with the signing and a free tasting, said: "It really is surreal — it's really weird."

The chef is known for his appearances on ITV's This Morning show, and for creating the world's most expensive sandwich — a lobster, caviar and white truffle butter butty, costing almost £1,500.

Tom's book contains dozens of recipes for pies, from traditional game pie to Aberdeen Angus beefsteak pudding and is a far cry from his namesake's science fiction novel, The Watcher.

Fantasy writer Tom Bridge, said: "It is weird — I knew the other Tom Bridge existed, but when Stella at Sweetens told me I thought this could cause some confusion. However I like his pies and I think it's great."

Does the 50-year-old have an action plan if any confused cookery fans ask him for some tips?

"I'll try and help them out! I can cook, but I'm nowhere near the chef that he is!"

● Tom Bridge will be signing copies of The Pie Society from 11am to 1pm.

Tom Bridge will be signing copies of The Watcher from 2pm to 3pm. For more information, contact Sweetens on 01204 528457
