THE SEAFORD and District Horticultural Society held its 108th annual show recently.

The Downs Leisure Centre was the venue for the occasion which saw more than 600 people walk through its doors for the event.

Mike Parker, society chairman, said that the number of both exhibitors and entries were down on 2009 and this was probably

due to the exceptionally cold winter and very dry summer.

Despite this visitors were still able to see an excellent display of dahlias, gladioli and many mixed garden flowers. Also on display were vegetables, fruit, cookery and preserves, arts and crafts, wines, photography and special children's classes.

There was also a fine display of decorate flower arrangements by local flower clubs.

In the afternoon Councillor Bob Allen, mayor of Seaford, presented cups, medals and trophies to the relevant winners.

Mr Parker would like to thank all the society members who worked so hard to put on a horticultural show that Seaford can be proud of.

The Seaford Horticultural Society has already started on the plans for the 109th show next year. In particular they are now looking for sponsors for individual classes within the show.

Anyone interested in sponsoring classes for 2011 should contact Tom Rennie (show manager)on 492768 or Mike Parker on 898733.
