Pair up for simple supper preparation Posted: 04 Jan 2011 05:07 PM PST Local Dish chef consultant Mike Dougherty will teach a class titled "The Art of Cookery — Hands On" next week in Twin Falls. It's set for 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rudy's — A Cook's Paradise, 147 Main Ave. W. Cost is $100 for a couple or $55 for an individual. Dougherty will teach new techniques to make a simple supper: an appetizer, buttermilk oven fried chicken breast, herb mashed potatoes, local steamed greens and local blanched carrots. The class is designed for couples, but anyone is welcome. Participants will team build in the kitchen, then all dine together. Dougherty started his cooking career at the Judith Ets culinary school. He worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as a restaurant development consultant, creating concept, menus, recipes, cost controls, training and supervision for 20 restaurants. He worked for Kaiser Permanente Medical Center to operate five hospital cafeterias in Northern California. He worked on special events and catering for The Good Table in Berkeley, Calif., and he designed food service for companies in south San Francisco. In October 2009, Dougherty and his wife moved to southern Idaho to teach the importance of using local sustainable products. Sign up: 733-5477.
