Craft, kite making and cookery at Dunstable Downs fair Posted: 07 Sep 2010 01:17 AM PDT Families flocked to Dunstable Downs and the Chiltern Gateway Centre on Sunday, September 5, for the final day of the outdoor attraction's summer festival. The all-day event boasted more than 25 craft exhibitors in the marquee on the National Trust site, as well as a henna demonstration, a kite-making workshop and an impressive cookery display from a Pampered Chef representative. Children making kites also had the chance to fly their new creations on the Downs, much to the delight of onlookers. Visitors also enjoyed a tug-of-war, music from an African drummer and a classical Indian dancer, as well as a farmers market and a history walk with the countryside manager during the afternoon. Next up at the venue is an Eid festival to mark the end of Ramadhan – the Islamic holy month of fasting. It will be held on Saturday, September 18 and includes congregational outdoor prayer, halal food and a stone-carving workshop.
