Town prepares for its first food festival Posted: 31 Aug 2010 12:37 AM PDT Chipping Sodbury prepares for its first food festival8:30am Tuesday 31st August 2010 THE first ever Chipping Sodbury Food Festival is set to tantalise taste buds and fill hungry stomachs. The festival, due to take place in October, has been set up by the Chamber of Commerce with the aim of attracting more shoppers to the town and launching a new larger farmers' market on a regular basis. With plenty of free tasters, cookery demonstrations and competitions there will be something for everyone to enjoy. Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Mark Lloyd explained how important the new event was in promoting Chipping Sodbury as a great place to shop. "What we want to show people during the event is that Chipping Sodbury is a nice place to come on a Saturday to do a bit of shopping. "On the day of the food festival we will have an extended farmers' market with an extra seven or eight stalls, selling good quality local produce. "If we can drum up interest from shoppers and show to stallholders that Chipping Sodbury is a great place for a farmers' market then we would like to try and have one every week. "This would bring more people to the town, increasing trade for local shops." The food festival is being organised as part of the wider fortnight food festival organised by South Gloucestershire Council called Taste during the first two weeks in October. The Chipping Sodbury food festival will take place on Saturday, October 9 and will include beer tasting, waffle tasting, artisan bread samples, Chinese cookery demonstrations, chocolate workshops, a cake baking competition and much more. "My hope is that lots of new people come to the high street for the food festival so we can prove to them that it is a great place to shop," added Mr Lloyd. "This is the first event and we hope to build it up each year until we have a big event." The food festival will be a free event but donations will be accepted for Help for Heroes.
